History

Benedictine abbey founded in the 12th century, modified in several of its parts in the 15th century, abandoned at the Revolution and partly destroyed at the beginning of the 19th century. The church survives, and to the south of it, continuing the south arm of the transept, the building containing the chapter house on the ground floor and the dormitory on the first floor. The church, whose oldest parts with the primitive windows are preserved in the lateral walls of the nave, was rebuilt and completed in the middle of the 12th century, then shortened by two bays of its nave in the 15th century. The ruins of the old façade still survive in front of the current façade. The vaults rest on capitals decorated with foliage. On the west wall of the nave leans a narrow 15th-century gallery, for use as secretorium. The gallery which surmounted this gallery has disappeared. On the transept two chapels with flat chevets from the 13th century open to the east. The 15th-century bell tower rises at the north end of the transept. The building perpendicular to the church and continuing the south arm of the transept contains on the ground floor a chapter house which opens to the west onto the old destroyed cloister. To the west also survives the hostlery for strangers, comprising a large room with a fireplace on the ground floor and an old dormitory on the first floor.
