History
Le Louroux was in the 10th century the chief place of a vicariate. Later, it formed a castellany and belonged for more than five centuries to the abbey of Marmoutier. It became in the 18th century property of the archbishop of Tours. The estate comprised 200 hectares. This vast ensemble presents itself as a feudal farm and is largely fortified. It comprises the remains of four towers and parts of the curtain wall from the 13th century. Certain original buildings were constructed at the same time, but largely rebuilt in the 15th century.
