Historique
Azay-sur-Cher était une châtellenie qui appartint, aux 13e et 14e siècles, aux seigneurs de Surgères. En 1477, les de Clermont la cédèrent à Louis XI qui la donna à la collégiale Saint-Martin de Tours qui la garda jusqu'en 1790. Au milieu du 14e siècle, les troupes anglaises occupèrent la ville et l'incendièrent. Du château seigneurial, reconstruit après l'incendie, et qui existait encore entièrement en 1700, subsistent une haute tour carrée dont le couronnement primitif a disparu. Sa façade nord est accompagnée d'une tourelle d'escalier octogonale à sa base, et cylindrique à sa partie supérieure. De cette tourelle part une partie de l'ancien mur d'enceinte auquel était adossé un bâtiment d'habitation qui s'est écroulé. A l'ouest de la tour et de cette courtine subsiste une tour cylindrique.

History
Azay-sur-Cher was a castellany which belonged, in the 13th and 14th centuries, to the lords of Surgères. In 1477, the de Clermont ceded it to Louis XI who gave it to the collegiate church of Saint-Martin de Tours which kept it until 1790. In the mid-14th century, English troops occupied the town and burned it. Of the seigneurial château, rebuilt after the fire, and which still existed entirely in 1700, there remain a tall square tower whose original crowning has disappeared. Its north façade is accompanied by an octagonal staircase turret at its base, and cylindrical at its upper part. From this turret extends part of the old curtain wall against which was set a residential building which has collapsed. To the west of the tower and this curtain remains a cylindrical tower.
