History
On his return from Italy, Charles VIII undertook the reconstruction of the primitive château. Dominating the city, the edifice presents a triangular plan. The Logis du Roi, built under Charles VIII, in Gothic style, occupies the Loire frontage. On the opposite side rises the Louis XII wing in Renaissance style. Each of the wings is flanked by a massive tower. Louis XII, François Ier, Léonard de Vinci and Charles Quint stayed there. In the 17th and 19th centuries, the place was used as a prison.
