Historique

History
According to tradition, Monteneaux served as a place of tithe collection for the bishops of Poitiers. The present building does not appear to date back beyond the 15th century. It consists of two independent buildings, separated by a terraced courtyard: a rectangular main dwelling flanked by a square tower and a round tower; a square keep overlooking the Anglin. Other buildings must have been organized around the courtyard. The western part is occupied by farm buildings. The towers are crowned with false machicolations. Certain facades were transformed in the late 19th and early 20th century. Monteneaux represents one of the rural manor houses which were erected in the late Middle Ages without having abandoned all military apparatus.
