In 1881, the municipality acquires a house in order to set up an asylum of 120 places and a girls' school of 92 places. From 1882-1884, the work of fitting out and enlargement is carried out by the architect Vaillant. Although the arrangement of the rooms seems to stand apart from official standard plans, the instructions recommended by Jules Ferry in the decree of 17 June 1880 are found. Following this decision, all schools had to include a cloakroom, one or more rooms, a playground with gymnasium, a play court, WC facilities, urinals. Polychrome decoration is marked by the effects of brick patterns, white stone, pink and ochre render, tile and slate, testifying to a renewed interest at the time for architecture with polychrome decoration. This building, and in particular its façade, illustrates well the architecture of public schools of the late 19th century.
