Au 13e siècle, la ville était entourée d'une enceinte fortifiée qui s'ouvrait par deux portes. La porte de l'Horloge, la seule subsistante, a subi quelques modifications dans le courant du 18e siècle. Le lanternon, probablement ajouté à la même époque, contient une cloche en bronze, fondue par le duc Jean de Berry en 1394. L'ouvrage est en pierre de taille et moellon de calcaire. La charpente en chêne se compose de chevrons formant ferme et de deux fermes principales.

History
In the 13th century, the town was surrounded by a fortified enclosure which opened through two gates. The Clock Gate, the only one remaining, underwent some modifications in the course of the 18th century. The lantern, probably added at the same period, contains a bronze bell, cast by the duke Jean de Berry in 1394. The work is in ashlar and limestone rubble stone. The oak roof structure consists of rafters forming trusses and two principal trusses.
