En 1107, le fondateur de l'ordre de Fontevrault, Robert d'Arbrissel, établit un prieuré près du bourg de Maisonnais. Il ne reste des bâtiments réguliers qu'un corps de logis reconstruit aux 16e et 18e siècles. Sont également conservés un portique et sa lanterne des morts, au rez-de-chaussée le parloir lambrissé de la prieure, la tour Bourbon. Sous la porte charretière se trouvent : la salle capitulaire, le réfectoire et la cuisine. L'emplacement de l'église fut entièrement nivelé au milieu du 19e siècle. Le prieuré fut la proie de bandes de reitres au cours des guerres de Religion, lesquels brûlèrent les bâtiments conventuels.

History
In 1107, the founder of the order of Fontevrault, Robert d'Arbrissel, established a priory near the town of Maisonnais. Of the regular buildings only a main dwelling rebuilt in the 16th and 18th centuries remains. Also preserved are a portico and its lantern of the dead, on the ground floor the parlour wainscoted of the prioress, the Bourbon tower. Under the carriage gate are found: the chapter house, the refectory and the kitchen. The site of the church was entirely levelled in the mid-19th century. The priory fell prey to bands of reiters during the Wars of Religion, who burnt the convent buildings.
