Ce château commandait la seule voie longeant la rivière, d'où sa position fortifiée dès le Moyen-Age. Après la guerre civile entre Armagnacs et Bourguignons, l'édifice fut reconstruit dans la seconde moitié du 15e siècle. Cinq tours reliées par des courtines peuvent dater de cette campagne. Au début du 17e siècle, le logis est surélevé d'un étage et percé de nouvelles baies. Au 19e siècle, le château est restauré et les écuries édifiées à l'emplacement de l'ancienne verrerie royale qui avait été fondée en 1752. La galerie qui reliait la tour du Bourg à celle de la chapelle est abattue. History
This castle commanded the only route running along the river, hence its fortified position from the Middle Ages. After the civil war between Armagnacs and Burgundians, the building was rebuilt in the second half of the 15th century. Five towers connected by curtain walls may date from this campaign. At the beginning of the 17th century, the main dwelling is raised by one storey and pierced with new openings. In the 19th century, the castle is restored and stables are built on the site of the former royal glassworks which had been founded in 1752. The gallery which connected the Bourg tower to that of the chapel is demolished. From 1934 to 1942, the reconstruction of the castle was commissioned by Eugène Schneider and carried out by the decorator De Galéa in neo-Gothic style.
