History
The upper storeys were remodelled. In the 19th century the primitive arcades of the ground-floor shops were replaced by modern shop fronts. The portal presents a door in round arch, with single leaf, with moulded framing and projecting keystone, in the form of a console, decorated with an acanthus leaf and a palm leaf rolled back like a shell. Two fluted, curved columns support capitals comprising an astragal, a gorge or frieze charged with daisies, a moulding with ovolo underlined by a row of Paternoster beads and an abacus decorated with inclined mouldings. The corner spandrels are raised with diamond points. Above runs a projecting architrave whose lower face is decorated with small coffers. The frieze alternates, with diglyphs, underlined with six drops, metopes containing military emblems. Above, a triangular pediment with a drip presents a cartouche whose scrolls enclose garlands of flowers and fruits around a central oval shield. The single leaf consists of two panels separated by a central fluted pilaster and bordered by lateral pilasters. Above the horizontal cross-member, the impost also presents a central fluted pilaster but profiled in the form of a baluster.
