Historique

History
The bridge was constructed on an alleu of the chapter of Saint-Salvi around 1035. At the time of its construction, only pedestrians and horsemen could cross it. In 1655, the structure was widened in brick (primitive bridge in stone). The defensive system (machiolated and crenellated gates defended by a ravelin formed of four round towers connected to each other by a crenellated wall, drawbridge, tower...) was removed in 1609. The timber-framed houses built on each pier were demolished after the great flood of 18 November 1766. The bridge comprises eight arches of which seven are of pointed arch form and one of round arch form, located at the head of the bridge. Upstream, the piers are of stone masonry with cutwater in front, surmounted by buttresses in brick of a later period, which receive the springing of flattened arches in brick, added without connection to the arches of the old bridge to support the widening of the roadway.
