Historique
Castelneau-Rivière-Basse est l'ancienne capitale de Rivière Basse et faisait partie du domaine des comtes d'Armagnac au 13e siècle. L'église paroissiale occupe une partie de l'ancien château. Elle est précédée d'un clocher-porche très massif, disposition courante dans de nombreuses églises du midi de la France, fortifiées au cours des guerres de Religion. L'édifice se compose de trois travées terminées par un chevet plat. Les deux premières travées sont couvertes de voûtes barlongues reposant directement sur les murs gouttereaux. La travée du choeur et le porche sont voûtés à liernes et tiercerons. Sur la partie sud du choeur s'ouvre une chapelle qui remonte au 15e siècle. Le clocher-porche est surmonté de deux salles, la seconde abritant le beffroi et les cloches. L'intérieur est orné de peintures au pochoir du 19e siècle.

History
Castelneau-Rivière-Basse is the former capital of Rivière Basse and formed part of the domain of the counts of Armagnac in the 13th century. The parish church occupies part of the old château. It is preceded by a very massive porch tower, a common arrangement in many churches of southern France, fortified during the Wars of Religion. The building consists of three bays terminated by a flat chevet. The two first bays are covered with oblong vaults resting directly on the gutter walls. The choir bay and the porch are vaulted with liernes and tiercerons. On the south part of the choir opens a chapel which dates back to the 15th century. The porch tower is surmounted by two rooms, the second housing the belfry and the bells. The interior is adorned with stencil paintings of the 19th century.
