After the Wars of Religion, the city of Cahors asked the king to grant it a Jesuit college by letters patent of 1604. Henri IV gave his agreement. In 1605, the former Quercy college was ceded to the Jesuits. The chapel was built on the site of the former chapel of Saint-Michel des Pauvres, attached to the Saint-Jacques hospital. The college was closed by the Parlement of Toulouse in 1762, with suppression of the order. Becoming a secondary school, it was inaugurated in 1806. The chapel presents a wide nave with a rib vault and ends in a choir of five sides. The aisles are occupied by two side chapels, opening onto the nave by two round-arch arcs underlined by a diamond-point bossage with decoration at the keystone. The wall paintings in the north aisle present a Christ in Majesty, surrounded by the principal virtues (Faith, Hope, Virtue and Prudence) in a setting of cherubs holding garlands of flowers, palms and drapery.
