Au 18e siècle, sous l'impulsion des intendants, on commença en Gascogne à doter les agglomérations d'un éclairage de lanternes à huile. Ces lanternes étaient fixées au mur. Deux piliers polygonaux en briques plates portent sur des bases de section carrée. Ils sont reliés entre eux par une armature de fer forgé en forme d'accolade. La lanterne primitive était descendue au sol à l'aide d'une corde enroulée dans une boîte à corde insérée dans l'un des deux piliers.

History
In the 18th century, under the impetus of the intendants, in Gascony they began to equip agglomerations with lighting from oil lanterns. These lanterns were fixed to the wall. Two polygonal pillars in flat bricks rest on bases of square section. They are connected to each other by an ironwork framework in the form of a pointed arch. The primitive lantern was lowered to the ground by means of a rope wound in a rope box inserted in one of the two pillars.
