Historique

History
Church built at the end of the 11th and beginning of the 12th century. It is composed of a nave, a transept with small apse on the north arm and a very developed choir, terminated by an apse in hemicycle. The nave dates from the end of the 11th century, and is covered with vaulting completed in 1843. The primitive vault was divided into two parts by a transverse arch whose dosserets still exist in part. The crossing of the transept is vaulted on a rib vault with square section, resting on ashlar stones placed above the abaci of the capitals. There are no wall ribs. This arrangement indicates the tentative efforts of the builders of this transitional period. A small apse opened on the north arm. The right capital is orned with eagles with wings spread, and the left one with lions placing their paw on a human head. The small apse terminates in a hemicycle vaulted as a cul de four. In the west wall of the south arm, a spiral staircase gave access to the bell tower which formerly existed on the crossing of the transept. The capitals of the choir are decorated with leaves; some with animals and figures. To the south, corresponding to the north apse, rises a tower which serves as a bell tower and whose ground floor must have served as a small apse at a certain period. In this tower, a room vaulted in barrel vault pierced with loopholes seems to indicate that the structure was intended for defence.
