Historique
La maison commune ayant été privée de ses façades anciennnes par suite de modifications de l'alignement des rues, l'intendant Mégret d'Estigny, en 1759, engagea la municipalité à construire un autre hôtel de ville. L'édifice, commencé en 1760, est achevé en 1778. L'immeuble comprend deux façades percées de nombreuses baies. La façade principale comporte un léger avant-corps terminé par un fronton comportant une horloge dans un encadrement de trophées d'armes et de drapeaux. Un campanile en fer forgé surmonte le tout. L'accès se fait par un vaste perron précédant le vestibule au fond duquel se trouve l'escalier. A gauche se trouve le théâtre pouvant contenir six cents spectateurs. Le balcon en fer forgé comporte comme ornement central l'écusson municipal, et sur les côtés, deux médaillons, l'un orné d'une lyre et l'autre d'un bouclier avec carquois.

History
The common house having been deprived of its old façades as a result of modifications to street alignments, the intendant Mégret d'Estigny, in 1759, urged the municipality to construct another town hall. The building, begun in 1760, was completed in 1778. The building comprises two façades pierced by numerous openings. The main façade features a slight projection terminated by a pediment bearing a clock in a frame of trophies of arms and flags. A wrought-iron bell tower crowns it all. Access is by a vast flight of steps preceding the vestibule at the far end of which is the staircase. On the left is the theatre which can hold six hundred spectators. The wrought-iron balcony features as central ornament the municipal coat of arms, and on the sides, two medallions, one decorated with a lyre and the other with a shield and quiver.
