Au 16e siècle, le château aurait abrité une garnison de soldats en lutte contre les Huguenots. Au 17e siècle, Richelieu démantèle le château qui présentait un plan quadrangulaire cerné par des douves dont la seule partie subsistante est située à l'angle sud-est. En 1660, la reconstruction de l'édifice est entreprise. Les derniers aménagements s'achèvent au 19e siècle avec les communs et le parc. L'édifice se compose d'un bâtiment principal avec deux ailes en retour abritant les communs, cantonnées par deux tours pigeonniers carrées. Un pont surmontant les douves en permet l'accès. Deux légers décrochements témoignent d'anciennes ailes en retour d'un château primitif dont l'aspect militaire se retrouve dans la tour-bastion carrée subsistant à l'angle sud-est, percée d'anciennes meurtrières. L'angle sud-ouest devait avoir une tour identique, rasée au 17e siècle. A l'est fut adossée une orangerie qui servit d'habitation avant d'être utilisée comme bâtiment agricole.

History
In the 16th century, the castle is said to have sheltered a garrison of soldiers in struggle against the Huguenots. In the 17th century, Richelieu dismantled the castle which presented a quadrangular plan surrounded by moats, the only surviving part of which is situated at the south-east corner. In 1660, the reconstruction of the building is undertaken. The final alterations are completed in the 19th century with the outbuildings and the park. The building consists of a main building with two return wings housing the outbuildings, flanked by two square pigeon towers. A bridge spanning the moats provides access to it. Two slight set-backs bear witness to former return wings of a primitive castle whose military appearance is found again in the square bastion tower surviving at the south-east corner, pierced with former loopholes. The south-west corner must have had an identical tower, demolished in the 17th century. To the east was attached an orangery which served as a dwelling before being used as an agricultural building.
