A l'origine, cette fontaine se trouvait dans les dépendances de l'église Saint-Etienne. En 1546, elle est transférée sur la place. La décoration actuelle fut disposée en 1593. L'ouvrage se composait d'une vasque de marbre sur colonne, posée par Jean Raincy. Au milieu, piédestal à quatre niches élevé par Antoine Bachelier. Sur le piédestal, quatre boules de bronze étaient surmontées d'une pyramide en marbre blanc et rouge. Dans les niches, quatre marmousets ou cupidons. A la base de la fontaine, se trouve une cuve octogonale. Restaurations en 1649 et 1720. A cette dernière date, l'ingénieur Ferrary fit tailler une nouvelle vasque, relever la pyramide sur un coussinet en briques recouvertes plus tard de plaques de fonte, reproduire en pierre la partie supérieure de la pyramide qui avait été rompue, refaire des niches en marbres, retailler la cuve octogonale et y sculpter les armoiries des capitouls de l'année, et enfin daller le parvis qui entoure la cuve.

History
Originally, this fountain stood in the dependencies of the church of Saint-Etienne. In 1546, it is transferred to the square. The current decoration was arranged in 1593. The structure consisted of a marble basin on a column, installed by Jean Raincy. In the middle, a pedestal with four niches raised by Antoine Bachelier. On the pedestal, four bronze balls were surmounted by a pyramid in white and red marble. In the niches, four small marmosets or cupids. At the base of the fountain, an octagonal basin is found.
