Le maréchal duc de Richelieu, gouverneur pour le roi de la Haute et Basse Guyenne devant se rendre à Luchon avec l'intendant de la Généralité d'Auch, le subdélégué à Montréjeau ordonna la construction d'une maison pour recevoir ces hôtes. Par la suite, le château Lafont accueillit nombre de personnalités. L'édifice de plan carré présente un aspect archaïque avec de puissantes murailles. Au rez-de-chaussée, la façade comporte une grande porte donnant accès à un vestibule d'où s'élève l'escalier d'honneur. A l'intérieur, les portes, les cheminées, les boiseries sont de style Louis XV. L'escalier d'honneur se répartit sur quatre paliers jusqu'aux combles. La rampe est en bois laqué noir et rouge. Trente-deux grands panneaux, chacun différent, sont encadrés par 35 petits panneaux d'un dessin uniforme. La main courante qui recouvre ces panneaux, aboutit à une pomme sur laquelle s'étalent des palmettes. Cet escalier, avec sa rampe, est caractéristique de l'oeuvre des charpentiers opérant en haut Comminges vers la fin du 18e siècle.

History
Marshal Duke of Richelieu, governor for the king of Upper and Lower Guyenne having to travel to Luchon with the intendant of the Generalité of Auch, the sub-delegate in Montréjeau ordered the construction of a house to receive these guests. Subsequently, Château Lafont welcomed many notable persons. The building with square plan presents an archaic aspect with powerful walls. On the ground floor, the facade comprises a large door giving access to a vestibule from which rises the staircase of honour. Inside, the doors, the fireplaces, the woodwork are in Louis XV style. The staircase of honour extends over four landings up to the roof space. The handrail is in black and red lacquered wood. Thirty-two large panels, each different, are framed by 35 small panels of uniform design. The handrail which covers these panels leads to an apple on which palmettes are spread. This staircase, with its handrail, is characteristic of the work of carpenters operating in upper Comminges towards the end of the 18th century.
