History

Built in volcanic breccia at the beginning of the 14th century, the church was heavily restored and decorated in the 19th century. Building of meridional type whose single nave was flanked, between the buttresses, by lateral chapels drawing false aisles (late 14th century to the north; early 17th century to the south). The western portal has rolls and cavets in successive recesses, without tympanum. On the south side, a bossed door of the 17th century, which formerly opened to the north onto the vanished cloister, and moved to this location. The bell tower was rebuilt in 1847 by the diocesan architect Carriat. The chevet was restored in 1889 by Aigueparsses, who also built the storey above the former chapter-house, as well as the spiral staircase leading to it.
