History

Art Nouveau house representing one of the rare examples of "modern style" architecture in Vichy. It was built after 1904, in a district composed of houses with neo-classical façades. The enclosure wall on the street is composed of a small plinth pierced by a pedestrian door. An iron railing surmounts it, with curves and counter-curves whose ends are finished with foliage (lilacs, clovers) or pointed. This is a commission executed for this building, made by the lost-wax process. The west façade comprises two bays on four levels with a rusticated base and an external flight of steps with a ramp and a guard-rail taking up the motifs of the railing. Ground floor with a double glazed door on the left bay; two adjoining windows at the right bay. The door is ornamented with sinuous forms uniting wood, ironwork and stained glass. The upper part furnished with coloured stained glass, is reinforced by a grille taking up the motifs of the railing. A small tympanum with lowered arch and small curved pieces completes the composition. The first floor is pierced by two French doors with semi-circular balconettes furnished with a convex ironwork guard-rail. These balconettes rest on the voussoirs of the lower arches decorated with projecting vegetative motifs. The arches of these two French doors are also ornamented with vegetative motifs (flowers, foliage). Inside, the vestibule is ornamented with polychrome ceramic flooring. The ground floor, the sitting room and the dining room have wainscoting on the lower walls. The bicolour marble fireplace of the dining room is ornamented with Ionic columns in pilasters.
