Historique
Le petit château du Verger était le centre d'un domaine agricole, et subsista jusqu'au siècle dernier. Il était constitué d'une enceinte, de fossés, d'un corps de logis quadrangulaire flanqué sur les angles extérieurs par des échauguettes en surplomb, et sur la cour intérieure par une tourelle d'escalier carrée. Le corps de logis a aujourd'hui perdu tous ses attributs fortifiés et est devenu simple maison d'habitation. Subsiste la chapelle qui dominait les douves, à l'est du château. De plan rectangulaire, la chapelle est couverte d'une charpente lambrissée formant fausse voûte en berceau surbaissé. Une lierne centrale délimite longitudinalement la fausse voûte en deux parties, elles-mêmes compartimentées en rangées par des couvre-joints. Les six dernières rangées sont ornées de peintures représentant un jugement dernier. Les six compartiments à gauche de la lierne centrale montrent les Elus ; les six compartiments de droite les Damnés. La représentation du Christ Juge a disparu. La chapelle représente l'un des rares exemples d'édifices religieux à pans de bois conservés en Sologne bourbonnaise.

History
The small château of Verger was the centre of an agricultural estate, and survived until the last century. It consisted of an enclosure, ditches, a quadrangular main dwelling flanked on the external angles by overhanging machicolations, and on the inner courtyard by a square staircase turret. The main dwelling has today lost all its fortified attributes and has become a simple dwelling house. There remains the chapel which overlooked the ditches, to the east of the château. Of rectangular plan, the chapel is covered with a cased roof structure forming a lowered false barrel vault. A central lierne divides the false barrel vault longitudinally into two parts, themselves compartmented into rows by cover strips. The six final rows are decorated with paintings representing a last judgment. The six compartments to the left of the central lierne show the Elect; the six compartments to the right the Damned. The representation of Christ the Judge has disappeared. The chapel represents one of the rare examples of timber-framed religious buildings preserved in the Sologne bourbonnaise.
