Le vieux château se compose des restes de fortification ceinturant une motte sur laquelle se trouve l'ancienne chapelle, devenue église paroissiale, un bâtiment d'habitations et les communs. Le sommet de la butte est occupée dès l'époque romaine par la villa Posiacum. Le château-fort fut construit aux 13e et 14e siècles et profondément remanié au 15e. Le corps de logis constitue la partie la plus ancienne, datant du 15e siècle dans son état actuel. C'est un bâtiment rectangulaire, comportant une tour d'escalier carrée à l'avant de la façade sud, et une grosse tour à base circulaire au nord-ouest. A l'intérieur, le corps de logis forme une seule pièce avec un plafond à la française, et deux cheminées (une de style gothique à l'ouest ; une du 18e siècle à l'est). Les communs ont été édifiés au 18e siècle, lors de la destruction des fortifications. Le bâtiment Est semble avoir conservé un reste de rôle défensif (archères, bouches à feu...). Le bâtiment sud servait d'écurie et de garage ; le bâtiment ouest d'habitat pour les domestiques. A partir du 18e siècle, le lieu n'est plus occupé que pas des fermiers. Cet ensemble constitue une forme d'architecture rurale très représentative en Bourbonnais.

History
The old castle consists of the remains of fortification encircling a motte on which stands the former chapel, become the parish church, a residential building and the outbuildings. The summit of the mound has been occupied since Roman times by the villa Posiacum. The castle-fort was constructed in the 13th and 14th centuries and profoundly remodelled in the 15th. The main dwelling constitutes the most ancient part, dating from the 15th century in its present state. It is a rectangular building, comprising a square stair tower in front of the south facade, and a large tower with circular base at the north-west. In the interior, the main dwelling forms a single room with a French ceiling, and two fireplaces (one in gothic style to the west; one from the 18th century to the east). The outbuildings were erected in the 18th century, at the time of the destruction of the fortifications. The East building seems to have retained a remnant of defensive role (arrow-slits, gun embrasures...). The south building served as stable and garage; the west building as accommodation for servants. From the 18th century onwards, the place was occupied only by farmers. This ensemble constitutes a form of rural architecture very representative in Bourbonnais.
