Historique
Hôtel noble construit par Philippe de Fourest, receveur du châtelain de Montluçon de 1460 à 1498 environ, puis transmis à son fils Robert de Fourest, receveur de Montluçon au début du 16e siècle [O. Mattéoni, Servir le prince. Les officiers des ducs de Bourbon […], Paris, 1998, p. 344-345]. Comme plusieurs autres officiers des ducs de Bourbon, il s’adonnait au commerce et possédait plusieurs ouvroirs (étaux de vente) du côté de la place du marché au blé (rue du Petit-Château), à l’arrière de son hôtel. Dès avant 1580, la demeure appartenait aux Barthonnat, famille de médecins, de notaires et d’avocats, et agents d’affaire des Mercier, sieurs de Bien-Assis. Noble hotel built by Philippe de Fourest, receiver of the castellan of Montluçon from 1460 to around 1498, then passed to his son Robert de Fourest, receiver of Montluçon in the early 16th century [O. Mattéoni, Servir le prince. Les officiers des ducs de Bourbon […], Paris, 1998, p. 344-345]. Like several other officers of the dukes of Bourbon, he engaged in commerce and possessed several shops (sales stalls) on the side of the grain market square (rue du Petit-Château), at the rear of his hotel. Before 1580, the dwelling belonged to the Barthonnat, a family of physicians, notaries and lawyers, and agents of affairs of the Mercier, lords of Bien-Assis.
