Historique
Cabanes en pierre sèches, appelées chibottes dans la région, appartenant à un vaste ensemble méditerranéen qui commença à voir le jour il y a plusieurs millénaires. Destinées à servir d'abris temporaires aux bergers et aux vignerons, les actuelles chibottes furent édifiées du 17e au 19e siècle. Ces cabanes ont un plan presque circulaire, dont seule la face percée d'une entrée forme un pan sensiblement droit. History
Cabins of dry stone, called chibottes in the region, belonging to a vast Mediterranean ensemble which began to emerge several millennia ago. Intended to serve as temporary shelters for shepherds and winemakers, the present chibottes were built from the 17th to the 19th century. These cabins have an almost circular plan, of which only the face pierced by an entrance forms a substantially straight side. Rubble stone of all sizes constitutes at once the walls, the interior covering and the roof. These stones are laid dry in a corbelling arrangement and form a dome by the sheer effect of their weight. Jambs and lintels are dressed. The interior space allows several people to stand upright inside. Created within the framework of a subsistence economy, the chibottes were constructed with local materials.
