Saint-Julien de Chapteuil fut, au Moyen-Age, un prieuré dépendant de l'abbaye de la Chaise-Dieu. La nef à collatéraux comprend actuellement quatre travées. Les deux premières et la façade datent du 19e siècle. Les deux autres travées précédant le transept, sont romanes, hormis leur voûte d'arête refaite au commencement du 17e siècle. Le transept possède une coupole, et le choeur trois absides. Influence byzantine dans l'ornementation des chapiteaux dont la sculpture est extrêmement soignée. Le pignon sud du transept a subi des remaniements.

History
Saint-Julien de Chapteuil was, in the Middle Ages, a priory dependent on the abbey of la Chaise-Dieu. The nave with aisles currently comprises four bays. The first two and the façade date from the 19th century. The two other bays preceding the transept are Romanesque, except for their groin vault remade at the beginning of the 17th century. The transept has a dome, and the choir three apses. Byzantine influence in the ornamentation of the capitals whose sculpture is extremely careful. The south gable of the transept has undergone alterations.
