Lieu-dit mentionné pour la première fois vers l'an 1000. Une famille éponyme de chevalerie va y tenir fief jusqu'au milieu du 15e siècle. Doté d'une maison-forte, ce fief se trouve alors dans la mouvance de la baronnie d'Aubusson. D'abord représenté par un seul seigneur, Azinière passe en co-seigneurie vers 1350.£La maison-forte était autrefois couronnée de mâchicoulis et protégée par une enceinte fortifiée. Aujourd'hui, elle se présente sous l'aspect d'une tour-logis presque carrée, pourtournée à sa base par une escarpe talutée, et flanquée en sa façade principale par une tourelle d'escalier demi hors-oeuvre. En rajout, un appentis s'adosse à sa façade sud et forme un avant-corps. A l'intérieur, l'étage entresolé conserve d'étranges sculptures en lave. Une sorte de chapiteau de facture archaïque représente un âne surmonté sans doute d'un coq. Placé en surplomb au-dessus de l'entrée de ce qui était autrefois la grande salle de la maison, il symbolisait peut-être les armoiries de la famille. Trois autres figures sont visibles. La première se couvre le bas du visage avec la main ; les deux autres s'apparentent par leur style à la période romane. History
Place-name mentioned for the first time around the year 1000. A family bearing the same name of knightly rank will hold a fief there until the middle of the 15th century. Endowed with a fortified house, this fief was then in the sway of the barony of Aubusson. First represented by a single lord, Azinière passes into co-lordship around 1350. The fortified house was formerly crowned with machicolations and protected by a fortified enclosure. Today, it presents itself as an almost square tower-dwelling, surrounded at its base by a sloping scarp, and flanked on its main façade by a half external stair turret. Additionally, a lean-to leans against its south façade and forms a forward section. Inside, the mezzanine storey preserves strange sculptures in lava. A sort of capital of archaic workmanship represents a donkey surmounted no doubt by a cock. Placed overhanging above the entrance to what was formerly the great hall of the house, it perhaps symbolised the coat of arms of the family. Three other figures are visible. The first covers the lower part of its face with its hand; the other two are related by their style to the Romanesque period. The architecture of this fortified house is typical of many similar buildings in Haute-Loire.
