History
This building, which is one of the oldest in the town of le Puy, dates from the 13th century. Of trapezoidal plan, the house presents at ground level the opening of a shop under a depressed arch with voussoirs. Boards protect the display above the stalls which border a central door. Next to this shop, a large pointed arch formerly framed the door giving access to the interior spiral staircase. Today, a door under a lintel remains, opening onto a wooden staircase. The second level was perhaps entirely blind originally. A window with crossbars and moulded frame appears to have been pierced in the 15th century. A moulded string forming a cornice marks the third level. It formerly served as support for the four windows under arcading which punctuated this storey, pierced under the rolls of two relieving arches with voussoirs. Originally, two paired windows with round arches appeared under each arch. Today, those on the left have disappeared, replaced by a modern opening. The voussoirs of their arches are underlined by a string and a gorge. A trilobed oculus pierces the tympanum which surmounts them.
