Historique

History
According to a tradition related by Mérimée, a choir boy is said to have been murdered by a Jew in 1320, angered by hearing him sing of the birth of Christ, and then buried secretly. But the choir boy rose again on Palm Sunday, mingling with the procession and, passing in front of the fountain of the Farges, at the bottom of rue des Tables, accused the murderer and had him stoned. In order to commemorate this memory, this fountain was erected in the 14th century. It was composed of a large basin in the middle of which rose a vase with a wide body narrowing at the top and surmounted by a Gothic pillar with pinnacles and finials at the summit of which was the sculpted image of the choir boy. The monument was destroyed in 1837. The Gothic pillar was preserved and reused in the restoration of the preceding work.
