History
Pradelles was an important relay between Gévaudan and Velay. Many plunderings took place in the 14th century and during the Wars of Religion. The enclosures and fortification works of the town must go back to the 14th century, the date of the great fortification campaigns of the region, against routiers and foreign invasions. The tower of Rochelix, named after the family formerly possessing it, must go back to this period, as an advanced bastion of the fortifications it could protect. The arrow slits and murder holes have now disappeared, but traces seem to be able to be found in some wall infills. The tower of Rochelix, very close to the Verdette gate, was to be an element of the defence of the latter.
