History

The chapel of Saint-Roch is closely linked to the local history of the ways of Santiago pilgrimage, as a staging chapel of Velay. From 1321, the chapel was known under the dedication of Saint-Roch to recall his passage at Montbonnet on his return from Rome. In the 14th century, the chapel was probably burned by routiers, then restored in the 15th. The building has preserved its ancient structure with a pointed arch door in the tradition of Templar architecture as well as its windows with Romanesque splays which remain on the north and on the chevet of the apse where the window of the original chevet was doubtless transferred to the present chevet in the 15th century. Woodwork surrounds the choir since the work undertaken in 1935.
