L'église existait sous une forme primitive dès 970, date à laquelle la dîme de la paroisse fut cédée au prieuré de Cunlhat. Ce dernier la rétrocéda en 1270 aux Bénédictins de Meymont qui, à la suite d'un incendie, vinrent à Saint-Gervais en 1470. Puis, le monastère déclina et les moines se dispersèrent. Avant 1789, la cure était annexée à celle de la Chabasse.£L'édifice à vaisseau voûté d'ogives présente un choeur à chevet plat précédé d'une nef à deux travées. Une chapelle à deux croisées d'ogives s'ouvre au nord de la deuxième travée de la nef. La première travée de la nef est flanquée au nord d'un escalier en vis hors-oeuvre menant au clocher, et au sud d'une chapelle voûtée d'ogives. Ce petit édifice rural est très représentatif des courants architecturaux de cette région du Livradois.

History
The church existed in primitive form from 970, the date at which the tithe of the parish was ceded to the priory of Cunlhat. The latter retroceded it in 1270 to the Benedictines of Meymont who, following a fire, came to Saint-Gervais in 1470. Subsequently, the monastery declined and the monks dispersed. Before 1789, the rectory was annexed to that of la Chabasse. The edifice with a rib-vaulted nave presents a choir with a flat chevet preceded by a nave of two bays. A chapel with two ribs d'ogives opens to the north of the second bay of the nave. The first bay of the nave is flanked to the north by a spiral staircase external to the structure leading to the bell tower, and to the south by a rib-vaulted chapel.
