Historique
Construit en 1890 pour le sculpteur Jean-Baptiste Gourgouillon, cet immeuble fut ensuite acquis par la famille Bernardin. Celle-ci compta deux ferronniers qui surent renouer avec la tradition du fer forgé auvergnat, dans le style de leur temps. Les ferronneries qui ornent la façade sur rue, et lui confèrent son originalité, sont leur oeuvre et ont été réalisées en plusieurs fois, de 1890 à 1920. L'enseigne, Modern'style, est soutenue par un décor végétal "au naturel" exécuté en fer forgé. L'esprit de l'Art Nouveau est surtout marqué par les deux balcons du premier étage qui montrent des formes cintrées rappelant le 18e siècle et, surtout celui de gauche, une ornementation végétale exécutée avec la même habileté que celle de l'enseigne. La grande porte, qui donnait accès aux ateliers, daterait des années 1920 et marque un certain retour au classicisme.

History
Built in 1890 for the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Gourgouillon, this building was subsequently acquired by the Bernardin family. The latter included two blacksmiths who managed to revive the tradition of Auvergnat wrought iron, in the style of their time. The ironwork that adorns the street façade, and gives it its originality, is their work and was executed on several occasions, from 1890 to 1920. The sign, Modern'style, is supported by a vegetable decoration "in the natural style" executed in wrought iron. The spirit of Art Nouveau is especially marked by the two balconies on the first floor which show curved forms recalling the 18th century and, especially the one on the left, a vegetable ornamentation executed with the same skill as that of the sign. The large door, which gave access to the workshops, would date from the 1920s and marks a certain return to classicism.
