History

Building from the mid-17th century, representative of the historical centre of Clermont in the 17th century, composed of several blocks of buildings in return articulated around an internal courtyard. The main block, which houses a room with painted panels, presents an elevation of two storeys with ironwork balcony-guards on the first storey, large arched pediments in full in crowning. A lateral entrance giving onto the internal courtyard allows access to the straight-flight stair with balustrades, the first landing of which gives onto the alcove room. Martial de Grandseigne, counsellor of the king and procurator at the court of aids, had the decoration of the mansion carried out on the occasion of his marriage. François Lombard, local painter, realizes from 1662 to 1665 the painted panels of the alcove room in the profane spirit, in collaboration with the sculptor Huchier for the woodwork. This rectangular room comprises mural decoration combining wainscot and painted panels (still life; Samson and Dalila; Thales amidst his instruments; Dido stabbing herself; Saint-Mary Magdalene myrrhophore...).
