Historique

History
Built at the end of the Gothic period, this building testifies to the persistence of Gothic art in Auvergne at the beginning of the 16th century, and possesses all its characteristics. The present church replaced a Romanesque building. The plan presents a nave of three bays to which is succeeded a choir with a polygonal apse, the bay preceding the latter opening to the north and south onto a lateral chapel. The church was erected on the type of churches rebuilt by the monks of a priory dependent on the Chaise-Dieu. A flamboyant portal opens onto the south façade. Its broken arc is pointed, it comprises several voussures and the ribs of the jambs fall onto prismatic bases. The ogee lintel bears a small pedestal on which stands a statue of the Virgin standing out against the background of the tympanum. The drip which underlines the extrados of the arch crowns the key of the latter in an ogee arch surmounted by a fleuron, and is trimmed with leaves raised towards the sky. On either side of this arch, two crocketed pinnacles rise.
