History
The commune was fortified in 1589. In 1686, this place was still surrounded by an enclosure of walls and towers, protected by moats. A rare vestige of these fortifications that ringed the city, this former gate serves today as a belfry. It was transformed in the Classical period (before the end of the 17th century) and is surmounted by a wrought iron bell turret. The whole, crowned by a metal sphere, is topped by a lightning rod. The gate was built on a rectangular plan. On the east are still visible the remains of an engaged round tower. The gate itself is a vaulted passage in round arch. The north side is pierced with windows.
