The Bodélio park appears to be a very ancient estate, since the construction of the wall that surrounds it is said to date from the early 15th century. This enclosing wall, 11 km long, encloses a property of approximately 375 hectares. Initially a hunting reserve (the main dwelling in the middle of the park was originally a hunting lodge built in the 17th century), the park gradually became in the 18th century a forest and agricultural domain to which were added all sorts of slate extraction, clog-making, sawing and other exploitation activities. In 1850, the Simon family acquired Bodélio and transformed it into a modern agrarian park, whilst at the same time having a landscape park skillfully organized near the main dwelling created, in particular thanks to a subtle interplay of very fine perspectives and a very elaborate hydraulic system. The estate has remained in the state of the 19th century, with exploited lands and a very well-maintained park.
