The Ministère de la Culture's notice
Historique

History
It was in 1239 that bishop Rainaud took the decision to replace his old Romanesque cathedral with a building in the fashion of the day, in Gothic style. The choir, begun as early as 1240, is consecrated in 1287, but is not completed until 1410. The demolition of the Romanesque nave allows work to resume, beginning with the western façade in 1424. Construction continues throughout the century, ending with the transept, completed at the beginning of the 16th century. The spires were only realized after the classification of the cathedral.
