La chapelle Saint-Maudet au Pouldu en Clohars-Carnoët, anciennement en la commune de Nizon, a été depuis le 16e siècle le lieu d'un pardon important pour cette région du Finistère. Depuis le début de ce siècle, le pardon des chevaux, qui était si pratiqué, est tombé assez rapidement en désuétude, entraînant de ce fait un certain désintéressement des autorités civiles et religieuses pour cet édifice. En 1956, la commune de Clohars-Carnoët, sous l'influence de son développement touristique, était amenée à envisager la construction d'une nouvelle église. Il fut donc décidé de transporter la chapelle Saint-Maudet alors située dans la commune de Nizon. Ce démontage et ce remontage ont été faits, avec beaucoup de soins, par M. Brunerie, architecte DPLG, remettant exactement à leur place tous les éléments d'origine, y compris les pièces maîtresses de la charpente. On peut considérer que cette chapelle a repris son état ancien et qu'elle n'a en fait perdu que la valeur historique et sentimentale qui s'y était attachée. Le cadre choisi de la nouvelle implantation a permis de conserver intégralement la caractère de la chapelle. La qualité de l'oeuvre n'a nullement été dépréciée par son transfert.

History
The chapel Saint-Maudet at Pouldu in Clohars-Carnoët, formerly in the commune of Nizon, has been since the 16th century the place of an important pardon for this region of Finistère. Since the beginning of this century, the pardon of horses, which was so practised, fell fairly rapidly into disuse, leading as a result to a certain disinterest on the part of civil and religious authorities for this building. In 1956, the commune of Clohars-Carnoët, under the influence of its tourist development, was led to consider the construction of a new church. It was therefore decided to move the chapel Saint-Maudet then situated in the commune of Nizon. This dismantling and reassembly were carried out, with great care, by M. Brunerie, qualified architect, placing exactly all elements of the original work back in place, including the principal pieces of the roof structure. One can consider that this chapel has resumed its original condition and that it has in fact lost only the historical and sentimental value which had become attached to it. The setting chosen for the new location has made it possible to preserve entirely the character of the chapel. The quality of the work has in no way been diminished by its transfer.
