Historique
Manufacture des tabacs construite de 1900 à 1904 par le Service central des Constructions de la Direction générale des Manufactures de l'Etat (tabacs et allumettes). Elle remplace la manufacture du Gros-Caillou (Paris 7e) , démolie en 1909. L'ingénieur polytechnicien Paul Berdin, chargé du projet, reprend un plan type élaboré au milieu du 19e siècle par l'ingénieur des tabacs Eugène Rolland. Consacrée essentiellement à la confection de cigarettes de luxe pour le marché parisien, la manufacture est désaffectée en 1978. Sa réhabilitation par les architectes François Ceria et Alain Coupel intervient à partir de 1985 : cette opération entraîne la démolition d'un bâtiment d'ateliers sur la rue Maurice-Hartmann et d'un logement sur la rue Michelet, affecté à l'origine à l'ingénieur de la manufacture. Les bâtiments subsistants accueillent un programme mixte de logements de fonction pour le ministère des Finances, de commerces et de bureaux.

History
Tobacco manufacture constructed from 1900 to 1904 by the Central Construction Service of the Directorate General of State Manufactures (tobacco and matches). It replaces the Gros-Caillou manufacture (Paris 7th arrondissement), demolished in 1909. The polytechnic engineer Paul Berdin, in charge of the project, adopts a standard plan developed in the mid-19th century by tobacco engineer Eugène Rolland. Devoted essentially to the manufacture of luxury cigarettes for the Parisian market, the manufacture is decommissioned in 1978. Its rehabilitation by architects François Ceria and Alain Coupel takes place from 1985 onward: this operation entails the demolition of a workshop building on rue Maurice-Hartmann and a dwelling on rue Michelet, originally assigned to the engineer of the manufacture. The surviving buildings accommodate a mixed programme of official residences for the Ministry of Finance, shops and offices.
