Historique
Le fort de Saint-Cyr est l'un des ouvrages les plus importants et les mieux conservés du système défensif proposé en 1874 par le général-ingénieur Séré de Rivières pour la protection de Paris. Ce nouveau système doublait celui aménagé vers 1840. Le fort, construit en 1875 et très bien préservé, présente un plan polygonal irrégulier et un système élaboré de glacis et de fossés inondables avec un double réseau annulaire de casemates de formes diverses reliées par deux souterrains voûtés. History
The fort of Saint-Cyr is one of the most important and best preserved works of the defensive system proposed in 1874 by the engineer-general Séré de Rivières for the protection of Paris. This new system doubled that laid out around 1840. The fort, built in 1875 and very well preserved, presents an irregular polygonal plan and an elaborate system of glacis and floodable moats with a double ring-shaped network of casemates of various forms connected by two barrel-vaulted underground passages. The casemates are covered by an imposing work of earth and masonry. The fort houses the computing centre of the Ministry of Culture (work of Fernand Pouillon) and the photographic archives.
