Maison construite au milieu du 19e siècle. Emile Zola l'achète en 1878 et fait construire l'aile nord (cuisine, salle à manger, cabinet de travail). En 1885, ajout de l'aile sud où se trouve la salle de billard. Le domaine s'agrandit le long de la Seine et dans l'île du Platais (1880 : kiosque norvégien, chalet provenant de l'exposition universelle de 1878) , puis construction de communs et d'une serre.
