Historique
Edifice d'origine incertaine, appartenant à un mécanicien-serrurier en 1867 et racheté en 1889 par Thibouville. Celui-ci fait appel à l'architecte Paul Vasseur pour le transformer en ateliers d'artistes. Le Bateau-lavoir garde le souvenir des nombreux artistes qui y séjournent au début du 20e siècle, faisant de ce lieu un "laboratoire de l'Art" : Georges Braque, Juan Gris, Modigliani, Maurice Denis, Constantin Brancusi. . . Bâtis en bois, les ateliers, vétustes et fragiles, disparaissent dans un incendie en mai 1970. Un nouveau bâtiment est construit à l'emplacement du Bateau-lavoir en 1978. La façade sur la place est une restitution de la façade ancienne. A l'arrière, l'immeuble réalisé par la Ville de Paris, comporte 25 ateliers d'artistes.

Building of uncertain origin, belonging to a mechanic-locksmith in 1867 and repurchased in 1889 by Thibouville. He appealed to the architect Paul Vasseur to transform it into artist studios.
