Historique
Le premier hôtel de Villeroy fut construit vers 1560, puis reconstruit au 17e siècle par le marquis Nicolas de Villeroy, qui fut fait duc puis maréchal de France par Louis XIV. L'hôtel ouvre sur la rue par un bâtiment à quatre niveaux dont le caractère aristocratique est marqué par un portail ouvragé. L'escalier monumental a conservé tout son caractère original. Cet hôtel fait parti des rares demeures de caractère aristocratique subsistant au sud et à l'ouest du quartier des Halles qui étaient à la fin du 16e et au début du 17e siècle insérées dans un réseau dense de maisons bourgeoises et populaires. Cet édifice a abrité les services de la grande poste à partir de 1689.

History
The first hôtel de Villeroy was built around 1560, then rebuilt in the 17th century by the marquis Nicolas de Villeroy, who was made duke and then marshal of France by Louis XIV. The hôtel opens onto the street through a building with four levels, its aristocratic character marked by an ornate gateway. The monumental staircase has retained all its original character. This hôtel is among the rare dwellings of aristocratic character remaining to the south and west of the Halles district which, at the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th century, were inserted in a dense network of bourgeois and popular houses. This building housed the services of the main post office from 1689 onwards.
