History

This calvary was originally situated before the Chapel of the old cemetery of the town. In 1576, it was transferred to the new cemetery Ste Anne and remained there until 1792. Finally, it was placed, in 1805, at the current cemetery of Colmar. Excellent work of the beginning of the 16th century. At the foot of the Cross bearing Christ, stand the Virgin and Saint John. Statues of large dimensions: that of Saint John reaches a height of 1 m 90. On the cross, figures the date of 1507; on the base of the statue of the Virgin, that of 1517; this latter date indicates, presumably, the year of the death of the donor (unknown), whose painted arms must have been found, formerly, on the escutcheon figuring on this same base. H. Roth attributes this work (which some authors give to Dürer) to Georges Muglich, called Meister Joerg, sculptor whose influence was preponderant at Colmar, from the end of the 15th century until after 1514.
