Un des établissements monastiques les plus importants d'Aquitaine sous l'Ancien Régime. Prieuré fondé en 1130 après le passage de Robert d'Arbrissel, fondateur de l'ordre de Fontevrault. Ravagé en 1569 par les protestants, l'établissement fut relevé dès 1570. Le cloître fut terminé en 1604. Prieuré vendu en 1791 comme bien national. De nombreux bâtiments furent rasés ; subsistent : la moitié nord-est du cloître, la porterie, l'hôtellerie, les ruines de l'église et du logis abbatial.

History
One of the most important monastic establishments in Aquitaine under the Old Regime. Priory founded in 1130 following the passage of Robert d'Arbrissel, founder of the order of Fontevrault. Ravaged in 1569 by protestants, the establishment was rebuilt from 1570 onwards. The cloister was completed in 1604. Priory sold in 1791 as national property. Many buildings were razed; there remain: the north-east half of the cloister, the gatehouse, the guesthouse, the ruins of the church and the abbatial dwelling.
