Historique
Ce monument a, semble-t-il, subi l'influence de celui de Saint-Yzans de Médoc qui érigea en 1856-1858 une "colonne à la Vierge" après avoir été délivré d'une fièvre typhoïde. Saint-Germain d'Esteuil fut-il à son tour atteint par une épidémie ou la paroisse voulut-elle tout simplement avoir aussi "sa" colonne ? Elle se dresse sur un socle massif et quadrangulaire portant quatre courtes inscriptions latines et une date. La base attique est ponctuée de griffes et le fût lisse est ceint à mi-hauteur d'une épaisse bague décorée de lettres parmi des feuillages. Au-dessus d'un lourd chapiteau se dresse la statue de la Vierge à l'Enfant.

History
This monument seems to have been influenced by that of Saint-Yzans de Médoc which erected in 1856-1858 a "column to the Virgin" after having been delivered from typhoid fever. Was Saint-Germain d'Esteuil in turn afflicted by an epidemic or did the parish simply wish to have its own "column" as well? It rises on a massive and square plinth bearing four short Latin inscriptions and a date. The Attic base is punctuated with claws and the smooth shaft is encircled at mid-height with a thick ring decorated with letters among foliage. Above a heavy capital rises the statue of the Virgin and Child.
