History
This 16th-century house must have had timber framing which disappeared during a renovation that appears to date from the 17th century. Henry IV having made five stays in Sainte-Foy, including one of three weeks in 1584 during which he visited Montaigne, rewarded the consuls of Sainte-Foy for their welcome. He ennobled two of them and authorized them to raise a turret surmounted by a weathervane at the corner of their dwelling. This house must have belonged to one of these consuls. The date 1583 above the porch appears to be that of the construction of the turret.
