Historique

History
The church presents a Latin cross plan comprising a nave without aisles terminated by a transept on which open three semi-circular chapels forming apses vaulted with cul de four vaults. The façade has a central avant-corps through which opens a wide round arch doorway whose archivolts, decorated with interlacing and saw-tooth ornament, fall on each side onto four columns with foliated capitals. Above this doorway, a band serves as support for three arcades carried on sculpted columns. They are surmounted by a large bas-relief arranged as a frieze and divided into three subjects: Adam and Eve at the foot of the tree of temptation; the Last Supper; the Mystic Lamb between two figures. A corniche with nail-head ornaments and a triangular pediment pierced by a round arch opening crown this façade. The choir, raised five steps above the floor of the nave, is separated from the transept by a large double arch carried on coupled columns. The lateral walls of the central apse are decorated with an arcade with a sculpted band (interlacing, foliage, birds, human figures). A north aisle was added in the 18th century. Alterations were also carried out following a fire. Originally, the central bell tower was only an open gable raised on an arch. During the Wars of Religion, it was transformed into a square tower serving as a fortification.
