The church passed into the hands of the Hospitallers of Saint-Jean de Jérusalem around 1280 with rights of high and low justice. These built the castle in the 14th century. The limits of the commandery were fixed in the 15th century and a plan was drawn up. In 1477, the possessions were ceded to the commandery of Bordeaux. The church remained intact until the 19th century, but deteriorated rapidly for lack of maintenance. The edifice, as well as the castle, was used as a stone quarry. The enclosure is surrounded by moats. It encompassed the cemetery and the ensemble formed by the church and the castle which was adjoined to it. Traces of painted decoration are present in the south-west angle of the nave. The castle presents to the north-west a tower and, to the east, two hexagonal turrets placed at the level of the first storey.
